Our School

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to the Holy Name Grade School Class of 1972 blog!

This is a place to reconnect with old friends:

To share pictures, messages and news with each other:

To reminisce about old times:

And to let others know about what's going on in your life today.

So pull out those old photo albums, dig into your memory banks and "blog" away.

Donations to Holy Name

Hi Everyone.

If you would like to make a donation to the Holy Name Scholarship Fund, please make checks payable to "Holy Name SEED Foundation". You can either send the check to me along with your RSVP or send it directly to Holy Name. If you send it to HN, please let me know the amount so I can show the total class donation at the end of our event.

Thanks - Alina

Rick MacKenzie & Family

Hello everyone! These postings bring back many good memories of Holy Name. I’m looking forward to the reunion. My wife Mariellen (O’Brien, Marian class of ’76) and I have lived in Cincinnati on and off since 1984 (except for 4 years in Lexington, KY and 3 years in Bad Soden, Germany). We met on a blind date at a Super Bowl party in 1981. We now have four children – Patrick (20), Caroline (17), Timmy (15) and Camilla (12). All four are active, healthy and fun to have around. I visit Birmingham regularly to visit my mother who lives not far from Holy Name. I cannot locate any pictures but I recall fondly the canoe trips organized by Mr. Coucke and ski club trips to Mt. Holly and Alpine Valley led by Mr. Meeker and others. Those trips made a lasting impression – my family and I canoe on the Au Sable or Platte most summers, and I manage to sneak in 20 or 25 days on the slopes each winter.

Don & Sherri Lawless' Two Children - Patrick & Trilby

Here's a message & photo from Don Lawless who will be at the reunion with his wife, Sherri:
"Patrick Lawless (age 16 named after his grandfather) and Trilby Lawless (age 13 named after my wife Sherri's best friend). Sherri and I met in evidence class in Austin, Texas. She designs historical embroidery and teaches around the country. We've lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan for 21 years. Today, August 26, we had a great day at the Lake Michigan beach! See everyone on September 29."

Yesterday's Tomorrows

This was a collection of many of our poems and writings from 8th grade. It had a somewhat dark, sobering theme - influenced by the turmoil around the Vietnam War and other major social and political events of the time.

Here's John with 2 of his favorite 'moms'.

The MacGuidwin Family

Here are the gorgeous MacGuidwin women - Meaghan, Sarah and Mary Beth (Rich).
How did Keith get so lucky?

Remembering Donna Betti

Donna tragically left this earth one year after our 8th grade graduation. She died completely unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. We will always remember Donna as a funny, smart, sweet and beautiful friend.

Congratulations to Monsignor Paddock on his 40th Year as a Priest

Best wishes from Bill Gillett

"Kathy and I will be celebrating our 25th in September. Over that span, we've lived in Ann Arbor for 6 years, New York for 6 years (where our three oldest came along), Seattle for 5 years, New Hampshire for 4 years (where our youngest joined us), London for 4 years and are now back in NewHampshire. None of the moves were sought or expected but we've loved each place, especially Seattle and London, and have collected many great friends, experiences and memories along the way. After having all of the kids in the same school in London, we're dreading the coming school year with one in each of grade school, middle school, high school and college (4 different schools and 4 different schedules). At least we don't have to worry about things getting dull or slowing down. I don't expect to make the reunion but best wishes to all."

Sr. Marietta & Father Ric Bass - 1976

Here's Sr. Marietta, the remarkable woman who helped shape us. A 'larger-than-life' person in our youth even though she's so petite. And here's Fr. Ric - our amazing youth group leader and spiritual role model. (Did we cause his gray hairs?) They are both gifts from God.

Gerianne Wertz & John Andrews - First Holy Communion

John always had a little crush on Gerianne. You can see why in this picture.

That's John "Smiley" Andrews in front. Pat Callaghan looked tough even then. And John Kolar looks so holy. Who are the girls?

Lisa Armstrong & Gerianne Wertz

Here are the amazing Lisa Armstrong Carpenter & Gerianne Wertz Dennison who haven't changed a bit.

John Andrews & Dave Hocker

Bryan McMahon & Anne Abate

How did Bryan get to be so tall? Here he is with Anne Abate.

Mary Jo Hayes, Mike Deighan & Mary Jo Nagle

Here's Mary Jo Hayes Sullivan (who hasn't changed a bit!), Mike Deighan, and Mary Jo Nagle (a "Queen of Martyrs" girl) at our 25 year high school reunion.

Mary Beth & Keith MacGuidwin

Here's Mary Beth & Keith MacGuidwin at our 25 year high school reunion. Keith is still too tall to fit in the picture.

John Andrews' little family

This is me (John Andrews), my partner, Chris, and my 90 year old dad. After my mom passed away in 2004, we persuaded my dad to move to California to be close by. He loves the sunshine and the scenery, and we love that he's here.
